Poor file naming and organisation


Sending a ZIP named "final_final_v3_USE THIS.zip" is a bad first impression. Name files by project and drawing number. Keep it clean.

1. How many projects should I put in my CAD portfolio?


Five to eight works well for most freshers. Recruiters don't have time to go through fifteen projects, and honestly, neither do you to explain them all well. Pick ones that show different skills. Assembly, sheet metal, structural. Explain each one like you built it yourself, because you did.


2. I only have college projects. Is that enough?


Yes. Every working CAD drafter started with college projects. The project isn't the point, the presentation is. Show the drawing, explain what problem you were solving, mention which standard you followed. 


3. Do I need 3D renders or are drawings enough?

5. How can I explain my portfolio without fear and without fumbles?


Explain the problem first, then what you did, then what came out of it. That order keeps you from rambling. Practice in the mirror so you would know you sound. Two minutes per project will do the trick.
